So much is published about vintage manual lenses. Some of those lenses are just as good as the modern ones today. Coatings might be better, but not much else.

I used this technique way back when I used my view camera. Ansel Adams was one of the first to talk about it.

Mike, Please read the manual. You can set exposure compensation, +/- 1 stop in half stop increments. Admittedly, it's awkward, but can be done. It's a subset of the ABC function.

The Nikon is bigger black box and more intimidating.

What happens when a lens doesn't have focus distance scale??? How do I read proper zone focus, what's my guide???... Old Nikon ai-s lenses didn't have this feature. Just aperture ring and and focus meter/feet ring...

it's called RANGE FOCUSING. Zone focusing is not a thing. Someone confusaed it with the zone system -- Ansel Adam's technique, to determine the correct exposure.

What if the camera makes all the right sounds and clicks but it feels like it’s a little slow? For example: my Pentax PC-555 measures instantly when I half press the shutter button to measure exposure and auto focus, but takes a few clicks and definitely more than a few seconds to actually fire

really well explained, thank you! everything makes sense in theory. but in practice, when i'm trying out at home and setting the zone distances, when i look though the viewfinder, those distances do not look focused. is that normal?

Great video, thank you! I just picked up a Minolta Hi-Matic GF today and didn't know how to test it. Everything appears to be working, except I forgot to look through the viewfinder at the store and it's all cloudy inside.

Just bought one a few months ago and now it won’t turn on 🫠 There was a bit condensation from being in a purse with frozen food but I can’t believe that would ruin it completely. Do you know of any fixes? I’ve even tried new batteries
